Sportplatzwelt Online Congress by Stadionwelt // Round-Up SLC Forum "Modern club management - the current crisis as an opportunity

On September 30th, the Sportplatzwelt Online-Kongress by Stadionwelt took place for the first time, where SLC Management was able to welcome top-class speakers in its own forum. With the Sportplatzwelt Online-Kongress, the established trade medium Stadionwelt offers the industry a new platform for knowledge transfer and exchange in the field of municipal sports facilities and club management. In addition to Max Müller, Olympic field hockey champion, member of the supervisory board of 1.FCN and spokesman for sports policy of the city of Nuremberg, Veit Hesse, managing director of MTV Munich and Andreas Neugebauer, board member of Post SV Nuremberg, were guests at the forum "Modern club management - the current crisis as an opportunity".

The opening keynote "Mindset is King" by Prof. Dr. Alfons Madeja addressed the current problems of clubs, which are well known to him through his many years of teaching and research work as a professor of club management, managing director of a major and popular sports club and former Bundesliga manager. In his opening speech, he emphasized the necessity for clubs and communities to reorient themselves during and especially for the time after COVID-19 and to bring about a change of mind among those responsible for club management. The emphasis of the benefit donation of the associations for the society is to be located in the focus of the actions.

According to Prof. Madeja, the "transformation of existential fear into energy to clear up the problem areas of the associations" is now the order of the day. The most important points, in order to face the existing problems of the associations are:

1. to create transparency and provide information as a basis for decision-making for the management of the association

2. to observe the development of the membership and to know the needs of the members

3. creating a service quality worth paying for in the association

4. optimization of marketing and sponsoring work

The discussion round that followed the keynote address "Crisis management and digitization from the perspectives of municipalities and associations" addressed the problems and fields of action addressed. In an exchange with Maximilian Madeja (Managing Director of SLC Management), Max Müller (spokesperson for sports policy of the City of Nuremberg) and Andreas Neugebauer (Board member of Post SV Nuremberg), the current and future difficulties arising from the crisis were hotly discussed from the perspective of the clubs and the municipality. For many problems, a more intensive exchange between the city and the association as well as a mutual understanding of needs is necessary, said Andreas Neugebauer. The problems an association is confronted with are not only valid for the moment but especially for the years after Corona.

Andreas Neugebauer (Board of Post SV Nuremberg): "You have to be prepared for waves of cancellations by members. We can no longer offer our accustomed complexity as before, because 50% of all municipal facilities are no longer available to us".

As a former competitive athlete and current spokesman for sports policy in the City of Nuremberg, Max Müller knows the problems, needs and thinking of the clubs very well from his own experience and therefore brings the athletes' perspective to the circles of political decision-makers. "But a change in the offer thinking of the members took place in the past years" so Mueller. He elaborates on this:

"The offers of the associations must individualize and generally professionalize themselves more strongly on the needs of the members. Associations must develop themselves further to Dienstleistern!

In order to gain a better understanding of the needs of the club members and to have data-based decision and negotiation bases at hand, "must be invested carefully," says Andreas Neugebauer. With the investment in the Club Information System of SLC Management, Post SV was able to make decisions in the interest of the majority of its members, despite and especially in this difficult situation, which secured the existence of the club and its jobs. Also in negotiations with the city and the corresponding committees, the information contained in the data provides an informative basis for decisions on appropriate measures.

In the Case dialogue with Maximilian Madeja and the managing director of MTV Munich, one of the oldest clubs in Munich, the Painpoints of the clubs were again taken up, in order to illustrate on the basis a practical example, how clubs can offer these the forehead.

Veit Hesse (Managing Director MTV Munich): "It was important to us - regardless of the crisis - to include all members and their opinions. That is why we decided to work together with SLC and to capture all voices through CIS in order to have a basis for decision-making".

MTV, like many other clubs, is faced with the task of mastering the balancing act between a traditional club and a modern service provider.

In particular in the points marketing and Sponsoring, which represent central problems for most associations, the Dienstleistergedanke must be developed still more strongly. Because by a careful and qualitatively high-quality support of the sponsors new partnerships can be won and existing partnerships intensified and extended. Because the protection and increase of the incomes represent for the associations not only the preservation of the existence but also the protection of jobs.

Veit Hesse (Managing Director MTV Munich): "Data-based club management enables us to surprise our sponsors by acting professionally and showing the sponsoring effect. Thus one creates it that sponsors become also partners of many years of our association.
