Image study of the national team by SLC Management enjoys media attention

SLC Management has been investigating fan opinions regarding the German national team on various topics from a sporting and business perspective for more than 10 years. The latest survey focuses on the image of the national team and the fans' identification with it. The latest survey was prompted by the recent less than satisfactory performances and results, as well as the media criticism surrounding the national team.

According to the latest survey, the image of the national team has the worst score in the era of national coach Joachim Löw. This is 3.84 on a scale of 1 (very good) to 5 (poor). By comparison, in June 2015 the image score was still in the very good range at 1.78. Since then, the image has fallen continuously. Fan identification with the DFB team has also suffered badly over the past five years. Identification dropped from a 2.39 to a 3.56. The increasing alienation of German soccer fans from their national team, which has been widely discussed in recent months and years, is confirmed by these representative fan opinions and data.

Some 5300 registered fans and sympathizers who regularly participate in surveys about their club, the Bundesliga and the national team took part in the surveys. "On the one hand, the respondents are thus closer to soccer than participants in general surveys. In addition, the registered participants are continuously surveyed over the years, which makes it possible to understand the individual feelings of soccer fans in a very concrete way," says SLC Managing Director Prof. Dr. Alfons Madeja.
